Origin
The Crassula ovata 'Hobbit' is a cultivar of the Crassula ovata and originates from South Africa. This elegant pot plant was given the peculiar name 'Hobbit' due to its resemblance to the feet of the Hobbits from J.R.R. Tolkien's books. This variety of Crassula is also known as the 'Jade Plant' or 'Money Tree', although these names are not unique to the 'Hobbit' variety but are also used for the general Crassula ovata types.

Characteristics
The Crassula ovata 'Hobbit' is characterized by its small, chubby, succulent leaves that curl inwards, reminiscent of the shape of a hoof. They are green in colour with red edges. This plant grows in the form of a shrub and can reach up to 1 metre in height. In winter, the Crassula ovata 'Hobbit' blooms with small pink or white flowers. It is a hardy and long-lived plant.

Care
The Crassula ovata 'Hobbit' requires a sunny to semi-shady location, but full midday sun should be avoided. The plant needs well-drained soil to prevent root rot. During the growing period from April to September, the plant should be watered moderately, while in winter watering should be reduced. Overwatering can lead to root rot. The 'Hobbit' does not tolerate frost well, so it is advisable to keep the plant indoors at temperatures below 10°C. The Crassula ovata 'Hobbit' is a succulent and therefore can endure dry periods well.
